The Seven Basic Principles Of Web 2.0

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 by Website Development

Web 2.0 is an internet idea that was born of discussions between the Tim O’Reilly School and MediaLive International. Within these talks, a number of interesting things about the past and future of the web were revealed. They include the notion that the web went through all manner of important changes that have a lot of influence on how firms do marketing of their their services and goods (and outright run their businesses) on the internet. (By the way, I also deal with internet marketing stuff. You can visit my website for a good domain name.)

Through the observations of web activity, O’Reilly and MediaLive identified a number of the similar things between firms that remained standing in the aftermath of the dot.com collapse. Due to this, there emerged a number of principles and practices of companies that made it through all those significant web changes.

We have the ability to look at the principles and practices of Web 2.0 as if they were threads tied together through internet sites and users as if they are all part of a fabric of interconnecting thoughts, communications, ideas, and goals. There are about 7 of these practices that are common among all Web 2.0 web businesses which have been successful.

However, not every company possesses each of them. Some do possess all and others may only possess a fraction of them. The key issue here is that characteristics of the Web 2.0 company that can be identified exist. Let us take a look at those basic practices and principles that can make a Web 2.0 company a Web 2.0 company.

Services Offered

Packaged software has drifted far into the past due the web itself becoming a platform for the majority of the applications produced today. An example of this would be found in the early years of the web where a consumer would have to go to a local computer software distributor to obtain the much desired and needed software packages whether such needs revolved around local applications or the internet.

In the modern age, the great majority of this same software can be bought and then downloaded into local systems through the web. Also, these services are now aimed at the outer edges of the web to all users instead of being centralised to certain viewers.

Effective Control

Since the early years of web design and business, many sellers have maintained a monopoly through computer and web products and what the consumer had to own and then bought. If the consumer wanted a specific application, it was required for the buyer to go to the company that produced it directly.

This reflected a one sided transaction. In today’s landscape, the web remains a platform and a monolithic approach is not a solution. Venders that handle both sides of the transaction may be in best area to grow a user base that is dedicated.

User Trust is CriticalCritical

There’s another item in the framework of Web 2.0 that venders are finding. Most users will make proper contributions to the growing of applications that are internet based. This will often surpass other pros. Wikipedia would be among the most well known of these.

Employing Collective Intelligence

User trust will always open the door for a company to enhance the collective intelligence of the users who are participating in their websites.

Always keep Your Focus on the Long TermTerm

The most successful of Web 2.0 companies will quickly learn that the profit margins are present in the sale of small volumes of rare products to a large range of buyers.

Always keep Focus on the Long Tail

The most successful of Web 2.0 companies will discover a great deal of profits in the sale of small volumes of tough to find products to many buyers.

Software Is No Longer Restricted To a Single Device

There is also software that is no longer bound to one single PC platform which is another excellent feature of Web 2.0. You can on occasions have software written on the web rather than being limited to having it written on a single computer.

Working with Lightweight Interfaces

Lightweight interfaces have made it possible for there to be all manner of innovations in assembly. Through the process of lightweight interfaces, it can be a lot easier to snap together 2 services that exist already.
